Tornado safety tips

Tornado safety tips

As of 10 o'clock Thursday morning, all of Your Region 8 was under a Tornado Watch.

Meteorologist Bryan McCormick says we should expect a strong line of thunderstorms to roll through Region 8 "shortly before noon and last through the afternoon."

He says the main threats are strong winds, dangerous lightning and large hail. Isolated, strong tornadoes are also a possibility.

According to the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK, “there is no such thing as guaranteed safety inside a tornado.”

However, tornadoes can be survived by following these safety tips:

Proof that spring has sprung

Proof that spring has sprung

Spring has sprung.

And SGM (Ret.) Frank Staples of Piggott has the proof.

Frank sent this photo of the first clutch of eggs in his bluebird house.  He says last year they "had 4 clutches with a total of 14 new bluebirds."

How has spring sprung in your neighborhood?  Send your photos to YourRegion8@kait8.com and we'll share them with your community.

Be sure to include your hometown!

Dominator 2 spotted in Your Region 8

You know it’s going to be stormy when the Dominator rolls into town.

Christopher L. Mullins of Batesville snapped this photo of extreme storm chaser Reed Timmer’s storm interceptor known as Dominator 2.

Covered with steel plating, Timmer has called the vehicle “bomb proof.”

He and his crew have used it to ride out tornadoes and severe weather all across the heartland.

And now it’s in Your Region 8.

Chief Meteorologist Ryan Vaughan will be tracking the storms all night on air and online at www.kait8.com.
