ASUN offering classes on canning vegetables

ASUN offering classes on canning vegetables

Back in the “good old days” our ancestors would can vegetables from their gardens.  That way they could enjoy summer’s bounty all year long, even in the dead of winter.

While many of us don’t raise gardens, canning is a great way to stock up on cheap veggies and save a few bucks later.

To help you get started, the Arkansas State University-Newport Continuing Education Department is offering a class entitled “Saving My Vegetables for Later, Part 1.”

The class will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, May 30.

Proof that spring has sprung

Proof that spring has sprung

Spring has sprung.

And SGM (Ret.) Frank Staples of Piggott has the proof.

Frank sent this photo of the first clutch of eggs in his bluebird house.  He says last year they "had 4 clutches with a total of 14 new bluebirds."

How has spring sprung in your neighborhood?  Send your photos to YourRegion8@kait8.com and we'll share them with your community.

Be sure to include your hometown!
