Parkin offering free summer programs for kids

Parkin Archeological State Park will offer free craft programs every Tuesday from 2 until 3 p.m. during the months of June and July.

The programs are open to kids of any age.

Not only will they create art to take home, but they will learn background information about the crafts and about the creatures that are helped by that craft.

Registration is not required.

EAAA hosting "Aging with Knowledge Conference"

 

The Second Annual Aging with Knowledge Conference, sponsored by the East Arkansas Area Agency on Aging, will be held Thursday, June 6.  This year’s topic is “Stress and You and What to Do.”

Registration will begin at 8 a.m.  The conference will be held from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, 3414 One Place in Jonesboro.

Can you “lick the lizard?”

You’ll get a chance to find out at the biannual Run Lizard Creek endurance run set for Saturday, June 1.

The 8K obstacle challenge, which features 30 obstacles, will benefit Relay for Life.

The cost to register is $55 before the event and $65 on the day of the run.  To register online, click here.  The race will start at 9 a.m.

Annual car show zooms into Piggott this weekend

Here's something that should get your motors running:

The 15th Annual Piggott Heritage Park Car Show zooms into town this weekend, May 17-19.

The events begin tonight with a chicken wing dinner followed by karaoke in the Heritage Park amphitheater.

On Saturday morning the Piggott Lions Club will once again serve up a $5 pancake breakfast at the Piggott Community Center.  That afternoon participants will be treated to a pork steak dinner before the cruise to downtown.

Mike Dollins "Cruizing" to Bluesday Tuesday

 

For tonight's Bluesday Tuesday concert in Newport, KASU Radio brings back Mike Dollins and the Cruize Brothers.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Newport Country Club, 703 Walker Dr., and is free to the public. KASU will pass the hat for the band.

This year’s Festival on the Ridge should be smoking hot.

For the first time ever, the festival will hold a bar-be-cue contest Friday, May 31, through Saturday, June 1, in downtown Harrisburg.

The contest is open to amateur cooks only.

Entry fees are $100 for one category, $150 for two categories.  Cash prizes will be awarded for each category:  $300 for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place.

Little Rock singer/songwriter Peg Roach Loyd will perform a concert and sign copies of her first book from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at That Bookstore in Blytheville.

Her book, The Path: Songs and Stories to Quiet the Mind, Clam the Heart & Inspire the Soul, is described as an inspirational book about her journey to leave her business career in marketing and communications to focus on her passion for music and writing.
