Gang of thieves moves into Your Region 8 | Crime
A gang of transient thieves has made its way to Region 8.
The Florida-based "Felony Lane Gang" travels across the country, stealing wallets and purses from parked cars, according to a news release from the Cross County Sheriff’s Office.
Once they steal a victim’s checks and ID they go to a local bank and cash the checks. Typically they use the far lane in the drive-through, hence their name.
Sheriff J.R. Smith says the crooks have been known to wear wigs and disguise themselves in order to match the victim’s identification.
The gang has been hitting parks, daycares, anywhere someone will leave their car for a few seconds.
To avoid becoming the next victim, the sheriff advises the public to keep their personal belongings with them at all times.
Even the trunk isn’t safe. The sheriff says the gang has been known to break car windows in order to open the trunk from the inside.
