Dollar General hosting career fair

 

Dollar General needs 10,000 new employees.

To fill that tall order, the company will host a career fair this Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dollar General store located at 2118 S. Caraway.

Dollar General representatives will be available to discuss opportunities, receive resumes and discuss long-term opportunities with candidates.

The Region 8 Job Link Employment Expo will be held tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mall at Turtle Creek.

Top employers from all across Your Region 8 will be meeting with candidates, including NEA Health System, St. Bernards, Nice-Pak, Apex Tool Group and KAIT-TV.

Qdoba, Everyday Chef coming to Jonesboro

Haag Brown Commercial announced Friday it has closed on a deal to bring a new restaurant and store to Jonesboro.

Qdoba Mexican Grill and The Everyday Chef will be located on Parkwood Drive facing Sissy's Log Cabin and Panera Bread, according to a news release from Haag Brown Commercial.

Nix Construction has already begun site work and completion is expected in late summer.

Agribusiness Conference to focus on technology, management

 

When you think about agriculture, you think about Arkansas.

According to the National Agriculture Statistics Service, there were 48,300 farms in Arkansas with more than 13.5 million acres of land in 2011.

On Wednesday, February 13, farmers all across Your Region 8 will gather at Arkansas State University for the 19th annual Agribusiness Conference.

Some of the industry's "heavy hitters" will lead sessions on price issues, commodities, public policy decisions and other trends affecting agriculture.

NFL referee to speak at Chamber of Commerce banquet

 

The Cross County Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Banquet will be held Thursday, January 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Technology Center for the Delta.

The guest speaker is Walt Coleman of Little Rock.  In addition to being an NFL referee, he is a sixth-generation family operator of Coleman Dairy.  In 2009 Coleman followed in his father Buddy Coleman’s footsteps when he was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Banquet tickets are now on sale at the Chamber office.  Individual tickets are $30, corporate sponsorships are also available.

Extension service offering tax preparation classes

Farmers, small business owners, professional tax preparers and anyone else interested in income tax preparation are invited to attend one of several 2012 Income Tax Schools being offered by the Cooperative Extension Service.

Classes are from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will cover such topics as retirement, divorce, succession planning, healthcare, rulings and new legislation.

The instructors are tax experts with extensive experience with the Internal Revenue Service.
