Women considering BRCA gene testing after Jolie's surgery

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – Angelina Jolie announced that she recently
had a double mastectomy.

The actress says the preventive surgery came after learning
she has a BRCA 1 gene mutation that raised   her risk of developing breast cancer.

Jolie’s decision to get tested for the mutation has made
many women wonder if they should, too.

Before they do, a local doctor says there are a number of
facts to consider.

The Memorial Day holiday weekend is less than two weeks away.

Whether you’re headed to the lake or just across town, the Arkansas State Police Highway Safety Office urges you to buckle up.

Beginning Monday, May 20, state, county and city law enforcement officers will be cracking down on motorists who are not using seat belts as part of the national “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

Colonel Stan Witt, director of the ASP and Governor’s Highway Safety representative, urges everyone to “buckle up on every trip, every time, both day and night—no excuses.”

Dollar General needs 10,000 new employees.

To fill that tall order, the company will host a career fair this Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dollar General store located at 2118 S. Caraway.

Dollar General representatives will be available to discuss opportunities, receive resumes and discuss long-term opportunities with candidates.

The event is one of about 170 nationwide career fairs Dollar General will be hosting on Saturday.  For a complete list, click here.

Mike Dollins "Cruizing" to Bluesday Tuesday

 

For tonight's Bluesday Tuesday concert in Newport, KASU Radio brings back Mike Dollins and the Cruize Brothers.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. at the Newport Country Club, 703 Walker Dr., and is free to the public. KASU will pass the hat for the band.

Amateur cooks invited to get their grill on at Festival on the Ridge

 

This year’s Festival on the Ridge should be smoking hot.

For the first time ever, the festival will hold a bar-be-cue contest Friday, May 31, through Saturday, June 1, in downtown Harrisburg.

The contest is open to amateur cooks only.

Entry fees are $100 for one category, $150 for two categories.  Cash prizes will be awarded for each category:  $300 for 1st place, $200 for 2nd place and $100 for 3rd place.
